To register… Please come by the Recreation Office at the Eddy Elementary School, Rte 6A or print out and send in a registration form with payment to Brewster Recreation Department, 2298 Main Street, Brewster, MA 02631. Cash or check accepted, please make checks payable to “Town of Brewster”.
Non-Residents & Visitors to Brewster: Our programs are open to everyone. There is a $10 non-resident fee added to program cost for those participants who are not a resident of Brewster.

**Early Drop Off Option: Parents/guardians may sign up for Early Drop Off for their child. This will allow those signed up to drop off between 7:30am – 8:00am. You must be registered for this option.

What can you expect when you join our Playground Program?
~Your child will have fun and make new friends!
~Your child will be supervised by caring and involved adults and student leaders.
~Your child will never be bored because the Playground Program is packed with variety! Throughout the summer we will take half day trips into the Capd Cod community and full day trips to different destinations. In addition to trips, each session will have a different theme, inspiring new art projects, games and incredible programming!

American Red Cross Swimming Lessons
Town Beach, Long Pond, Crowell’s Bog Road (off Rte. 124)
$50 per session ($60 for non-residents)
Maximum class size: 8 swimmers

Level Descriptions
Beginner Lessons: Preschool, Level 1 & Level 2
Pre-School: Ages 2-3 years, parent must be in the water with their child. Orients child to the water & helps them gain basic skills, water independence and comfort near the water.
Level 1: Child should be turning 4 by Sept. 1. Introduction to water skills helps students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy it safely.
Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Stroke Development Lessons: Levels 3, 4, 5 & 6
Level 3: Stroke Development, builds on skills from Level 2 by providing additional guided practice.
Level 4: Stroke Improvement: develops confidence in the strokes learned and to improve other aquatic skills
Level 5: Stroke Refinement: provides further coordination and refinement of strokes.
Level 6: Swimming & Skill proficiency: refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.

Sailing Lessons

Lessons run 2 hours – Please indicate what week, level and time you prefer. All sailors are required to bring a life jacket and need to know how to swim. Full classes are listed below descriptions.
Beginner Lessons

This comprehensive program teaches the basics with students sailing from Day 1! The classes include basic nautical terms, docking and mooring procedures, knotting techniques and recovery methods.
Advanced Lessons
Ages 11+
11:00am or 1:30pm
For sailors who have taken 2 consecutive years of sailing lessons and are looking to take their skills to the next level. An overview of racing skills and advanced boat handling. Students must be confident in their general knowledge of rigging, sailing without an instructor and be willing to learn increased technical skills.

Counselor-in-Training Program
Brewster Recreation’s Counselor in Training Program is designed for students who turn 13 by July 1, 2011, and who are interested in becoming better leaders. This program covers a curriculum that includes such topics as leadership, conflict resolution, child development and group dynamics that leads to the making of a successful Brewster Rec Counselor and a better leader.

CIT’s will be evaluated by the staff at the end of their session. Successful completion of the program and positive evaluations could lead to the participant being invited back the following season to interview for a staff position (Must be going into the 10th grade to be considered.). Because of the limited number of positions available and the highly competitive nature of this program, all potential applicants must complete the CIT Application in order to determine suitability for the program.
